Michael Jackson as 2014 highest earned dead celebrity
Despite the fact that he died some years ago due to the errors of his personal doctor Michael Jackson has been named as the world 2014 highest earned dead celebrity by the Forbes magazine .Late King of Pop Michael Jackson has been named the world's top earning dead celebrity of 2014 with his estate minting $140 million, according to Forbes magazine.
Jackson's estate is said to have made almost three times as much as perennial list topper Presley, who made $55 million over the same 12-month period. reports dailymail.co.uk.
The reason for the high earnings by the "Dangerous" singer's estate is his second posthumous album release "Xscape", which scored number two on the charts.A holographic performance on stage at the Billboard Music Awards also bolstered MJ's profile.
On the third spot on the list is Cartoonist Charles Schulz with $40 million, thanks to his popular characters which include Charlie Brown and Snoopy.
Actress Elizabeth Taylor came in at fourth with $25 million and Bob Marley came in at fifth with an estimated $20 million in earnings.
Forbes compiled the list in conjunction with estate managers, agents, music publishers and other insiders, coming up with estimates of what each estate brought in between October 2013 and October 2014.
Why Newswatch deputy editor was killed -by suspects
More facts have emerged to the reasons why the deputy editor of Newswatch magazine Mr Toyin Obadina was killed by a noorious robbery gang as the police in Lagos state paraded members of the gang that carried out the evil act
Members of a notorious robbery gang that confessed to have killed the Deputy Editor of Saturday Newswatch, Mr. Toyin Obadina, during an operation in Ikorodu area of Lagos eight months ago, have been arrested by police in Lagos
d be recalled that the deceased was driving in his Toyota Yaris salon car, with registration number AKD 701 CE, when he was attacked at Itoikin, Old Ijebu-Ode Road at 1a.m, on his way home at Parafa area of Ikorodu.
He was rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where he was operated on, but later died.
Obadina’s murder was suspected to have been an assassination. But the suspects, who were paraded before journalists at the command’s headquarters yesterday, said they never knew the identity of their victim.
The Command’s boss, Kayode Aderanti, said he received information that the gang was converging on their hide-out at Mile 12 area, in preparation for an operation last Friday.
He said: “Based on the information, a team of crack detectives, led by the officer in charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Abba Kyari, swung into action and two suspected members of the gang, Ibrahim Adeokin and Babatunde Makinde, were arrested.
“Immediate search conducted on them led to the recovery of two cut-to-size locally-made single barrelled short guns, with 12 rounds of live cartridges.
“During interrogation, they confessed to belonging to a six-man robbery gang who has been terrorising Lagos State and its environs. They also confessed to be responsible for the killing of the owner of a Toyota Yaris car with registration number AKD 701CE, which they snatched and later abandoned with the corpse at Ikorodu.
“The victim was later discovered to be Mr. Toyin Obadina, the Deputy Editor of Saturday Newswatch. Their confession later led detectives to Ikorodu area where one Festus Adeshina and Sunday Samuel were also arrested.
“They mentioned Olasheun and Omo Alhaja, who are at large, as members of their gang, while Oke and Benjamin, who they claimed were members of the gang, were killed in a shoot-out with operatives of SARS at Mile 12 area.”
How we killed Obadina —SUSPECT
One of the suspects, Shina Festus, told journalists that he (Obadina) was shot dead by their leader, whose identity he gave as Oke.
He said: “We were coming from Imota, while he (Obadina) was going inward. On reaching a bad spot, he slowed down and we blocked him with our vehicles: one in front and the other behind.
“Four members of the gang came down from the vehicles. While two of them positioned themselves to wade off intruders, Oke and Benjamin went to the man in the car. An argument ensued between Oke and the man, and Oke shot him dead.
“When one of us asked Oke why he shot the motorist, he got angry and shot the gang member for challenging his authority.
“At the end of the operation, we collected his phone, laptop and some money we saw in the car. When we got to our hideout, Oke told us that the man struggled with him.
“We did not know the man was a journalist and my job is to drive the operational vehicle.”
I was about to quit robbery, says suspect
Twenty-one years old Shina, who still has a pending case of alleged robbery, revealed that he had only gone on operation with members of the gang three times, and made about N200,000.
The suspect said he was arrested just when he wanted to quit robbery.
He said: “I started thinking of quitting when Oke and Benjamin were killed by policemen from SARS during a shootout.”
Aderanti said the suspects would be charged to court, adding that effort was on to arrest fleeing gang members of the gang.
He warned criminals to turn a new leaf or leave Lagos State for good, adding that the command was determined to hunt down criminals that come to Lagos.

Oscar Pistorius:From sports to prison
Six time South African Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorious could be released from prison after 10 months of his sentence, while IPC bars athlete from competing at their events for five years
Oscar Pistorius had been handed a five-year sentence for the culpable homicide (manslaughter) of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day last year. The trial which casted doubts over South Africa legal framework as raised much eyebrows considering the fact that the defendant is handicapped
Reports stated that the six-time Paralympic gold medallist could serve a minimum of 10 months of his sentence in prison and the rest under house arrest, with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) confirming to the BBC’s sports editor, Dan Roan that the athlete will be barred from competing at IPC events for five years, even if he is released early. Pistorius would therefore be ineligible for the Rio Paralympic Games, as well as the two World Championships – Doha 2015 and London 2017.
This would be reviewed should the sentence be appealed.
The International Olympic Committee is yet to comment on whether the sprinter will be allowed to compete at IOC events in the future.
Steenkamp died on February 14, 2013, after Pistorius fatally shot her through a toilet door. The athlete says he shot at the door thinking there was an intruder in his house and last month he was cleared of murder charges after Judge Thokozile Masipa stated that the prosecution had failed to prove premeditated murder.
The 27-year-old was found guilty of the lesser charge of culpable homicide, which meant he could have faced a jail sentence of up to 15 years, but at the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday, Judge Masipa handed the Olympic and Paralympic sprinter a five-year sentence, explaining a non-custodial sentence would send the wrong message to the community, but that “a long sentence would also not be appropriate because it would lack the element of mercy”.
Pistorius was also given a three-year suspended sentence for a separate firearms offence.
Pistorius’ family is said to have confirmed that the athlete will not be appealing his sentence, though the State prosecuting authority is yet to decide whether to appeal.
Known as the “Blade Runner” because of the carbon fibre prosthetic blades he would use when running, Pistorius made history at London 2012 when he became the first double amputee to run in both the Olympics and Paralympics.
The London 2012 Olympic 400m semi-finalist also won gold in the T44 400m at the London Paralympics, setting a Paralympic record in the process, as well as silver in the T44 200m and gold in the 4x100m relay.

UP NIGERIA:WHO declares Nigeria ebola free
Nigeria has retained back her former status as ebola free country as the WHO declared her ebola free yesterday .The World Health Organisation (WHO), on Monday, officially certified Nigeria free of the Ebola virus disease.
The country representative of WHO in Nigeria, Dr Riu Gama Vaz, made the announcement at a news conference in Abuja.
He said Nigeria had successfully broken the transmission chain, stressing that the country’s story was an indication that the disease could be contained.
“Today, October 20, 42 days, means twice the incubation period, after the last confirmed case of the Ebola virus disease was discharged from the isolation ward, having tested negative for the Ebola virus, the chain of transmission has been broken.
“WHO officially declares that Nigeria is now free of the Ebola virus, the virus is gone for now, the outbreak in Nigeria has been defeated. This is a spectacular success story that shows to the world that Ebola can be contained,” the WHO country representative said.
He added that there was a lot more to be done, as other affected countries in West Africa were still battling to control the spread of the disease within their countries and beyond their borders.
Vaz said the battle against the virus could only be won if countries still plagued by the spread of the disease were liberated.
He commended Nigerian authorities and frontline workers for their efforts and commitment in the containment of the virus in Lagos and Port Harcourt.
The WHO country representative acknowledged Nigeria’s unique style and strategy in controlling the spread of the disease beyond the states where cases were reported and stressed the need for Nigeria to export its experience and expertise to help fight the scourge of the disease in other countries still struggling with the virus.
“We need to continue sharing the Nigerian experience and the country’s expertise to help other countries to urgently contain the Ebola epidemic and supporting others in the preparedness and response plan,” he said.
He, however, warned that Nigeria was still at risk of contracting the virus, hence the need for authorities to remain vigilant in checking its borders and other entry points into the country.
Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, paid glowing tributes to the heroes of Nigeria’s Ebola control campaign.
He commended the efforts of President Goodluck Jonathan and the national Ebola response team led by the project director of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Professor Abdulsalam Nasidi.
Chukwu said the president’s committed leadership, the affected state governments and the hard work of members of the response team remained key to the success recorded by Nigeria.
He, however, urged international partners sending aid to other countries in West Africa to work closely with ECOWAS to effectively contain the spread of the disease.
The minister said Nigeria remained committed and was open to support countries fighting Ebola, in addition to what it had already done to help contain the scourge.
Professor Nasidi, speaking on the certification, said it only means that the epidemic was not sustained.
He said Nigeria prevented a sustained Ebola virus epidemic, adding, however, that the certification did not rule out the possibility of the virus re-introduction.
The don said Nigeria could not afford to let down its guards on Ebola virus, adding that the country must be at alert all the time, to be able to respond to any case of infection or outbreak.
The expert said with the pronouncement by WHO, Nigeria ceases to be one of the countries listed to have Ebola and, as such, its citizens ceases to face travel restriction.
He sounded a note of warning that Nigerians must stick to all rules of preventing the virus, such as washing of hands, as a case of introduction of Ebola virus could be deadly.
President Goodluck Jonathan welcomed the declaration by WHO, adding that the globally-acclaimed success against Ebola was a testimony to what Nigerians could achieve if they set aside their differences and work together.
Briefing State House correspondents in Abuja, on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, said the president had dedicated the certification to the “many patriotic health workers, volunteers and ordinary Nigerians, who worked tirelessly, some of them paying the ultimate price, to stop the deadly virus in its track, after it entered the country in July.”
Jonathan reiterated his appreciation of the contributions of state governments, WHO and other international health organisations, relatives of infected persons and other Nigerians, who either courageously underwent the rigours of being quarantined or complied with all directives issued by health authorities to defeat the virus.
“As the nation applauds the success of its collective effort to stop the transmission of the Ebola virus within Nigeria, the president warns that the entire country must remain fully alert and vigilant against the re-entry of the virus,” Abati said.
The president urged all Nigerians to continue to follow the anti-Ebola advisories on sanitation and personal hygiene, issued by federal and state health authorities.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) said the certification was a welcome development, describing it as a wake-up call to all Nigerians.
Its first Vice President, Dr Titus Ibekwe, said Nigeria’s neighbours “are still battling with the virus,” a reason he said it was not totally over.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, commended the successful eradication of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria, saying that the feat would change the negative perception of the country by the outside world.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by his media office in Abuja, on Monday.
The former vice president and presidential aspirant said that the governments of Nigeria, Lagos and Rivers states should be commended for the remarkable achievement in the face of the grimmest medical crisis that the country found itself dealing with.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, on Monday, said the success recorded by Nigeria in the containment of the Ebola virus was, by all standards, phenomenal.
Idris spoke in Ikeja, while reacting to the declaration of Nigeria as Ebola-free.
He also announced a N50 million support to First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, where the index case, Mr Patrick Sawyer died, to assist it bounce back to business.
The commissioner said the containment success was unique, because the country‘s case was the first urban case in decades.

And boko haram violates ceasefire agreement with Nigerian government
The terror group boko haram has just violated the ceasefire agreement that was announced by the federal government on friday 17th october 2014.The federal government said that there has been a major breakthrow as it has entered into agreement witth the sect on release of the abducted Chibok girls in exchange for release of major boko haram detainees.but there was an attack by the terror group in Borno state last saturday.
Boko haram attackled some villages around the hilly area of Dzur killing 18 persons despite the ceasefire aggreenmt.
My view is that there are some other groups terrorising Nigeria and that boko haram is just one of them and these other groups have been operating anonimously.Look at what that has just happened the government announcing an agreement with boko haram and another group struck just 24 hours after the announcement killing 18 persons .
Really there are some other terror groups tormenting Nigeria but the the security forces have failed to identify them and deal with them accordingly. Many of these other groups operate knowing that it will be hard for the Nigerian government to acknowledge their existence and consequently stop their activities.Look boko haram is not the only terror group attacking Nigeria
The controversy over the fate of Abubakar Shekau still ravages the minds of most nigerians .While the Nigerian army says that he is dead another person is claiming to the real shekau from video released by the group not quite long ago.
If you take a concise look at the scenario then probably you will get what am saying .the northen part of Nigeria with many porous entries from nearby Cameroon and Chad has made it somehow difficult to tackle the insurgency.Do we have data on how many persons move into this country daily from these entries?if no then the situation is worse than you may imagine and if yes then how are the security forces able to make use of this data to stop the carnage?
If the government enters into an agreement with the sect then it must be made clear that all affiliates of the group be exposed by the leaders and laydown their arms and completely embrace ceasefire, merely saying that they have agreed to ceasefire can be a hoas and a ploy to betray the government into releasing their detained members. Its most likely there are many affiliates ol this boko haram group yet to be uncovered who operate and cause greate damage to innnocent citizens in the northen part of the country.

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi sacked
He had been having a fine season managing the Nigerian male senior national team which culminated in him winning the African Cup of Nations and qualifying the country for the last world cup in Brazil but all that came to an end yesterday as the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) terminated his job following a series of poor results
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Wednesday night sacked Stephen Keshi as Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach and relieved his assistants – Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shorounmu – of their duties.
The decision was reached following an executive committee meeting held in Abuja.
In a communiqué signed by Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, the NFF commended Keshi and his assistants for their achievements in the past three years.
“We praise their glorious accomplishments to the senior national team in the past three years and hailed Stephen Keshi, Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shorounmu as true national heroes. However, in the interest of Nigeria football and the desire to ensure qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Committee decided to relieve them of their duties with immediate effect,” the communiqué disclosed.
Keshi has received a lot of flak in recent times for the poor performance of the Super Eagles at the on-going Nations Cup qualifiers.
The Committee has therefore unanimously approved the appointment of a consortium of coaches to lead the Super Eagles for the two concluding matches of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series (against Congo in Brazzaville and against South Africa in Uyo), after which an expatriate Coach will be appointed.
The consortium, led by Amodu Shaibu, also has Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Aloysius Agu. The team also has a new Coordinator in former international Garba Lawal, while Toyin Ibitoye was appointed as the new Media Officer. Godfirst Chike also took over as the new equipment manager. Team Secretary, Enebi Achor, was retained.
Also, former Super Eagles head coach,. Samson Siasia, was appointed as the new head coach of the U-23 Men’s team. He will be assisted by Fatai Amoo, while the Technical and Development Committee is to recommend the other members of the crew.
However, in recognition of Keshi’s administrations’ contribution to Nigerian football, the NFF approved that the trio of Keshi, Amokachi and Shorounmu can proceed to any coaching course of their choice in any country to build their capacity, at the expense of the NFF.
“All their entitlements will be paid within the next fortnight,” the communiqué added.
The Executive Committee also constituted Standing Committees of the Federation thus:
FINANCE COMMITTEE: Otunba Dele Ajayi (Chairman); Busari Ishola (Member); Bello Saidi (Member); Auwalu Musa Umar (Member); Financial Institution/Accounting Firm Representative.
